Home Modification
Home modifications are custom-built changes to a participant’s home to help them access and use areas of their home.
What generally covers
- Access: Widening doorways, installing ramps, or modifying stairs.
- Bathrooms & Toilets: Grab rails, shower chairs, accessible shower bases, and modifications to bathroom layouts (including level access and handheld shower heads), non-slip flooring.
- Kitchens: Adjustable countertops, accessible sinks, and modifications to appliances.
- Bedrooms: Modifications to ensure safe and comfortable access and movement.
- Home Entrance & Access: Modifications to make entering and moving around the home easy and safe.
Assistance with travel and transport arrangement
What generally covers:
- Public Transport: Assistance with using buses, trains, trams, and other public transport options, including travel training and route planning.
- Transport to Activities: Funding for transport to community, social, and recreational activities.
- Employment-related Travel: Assistance with travel to work or job-related training.
- Medical Appointments: Transportation assistance to attend medical appointments and therapies.
- Travel Allowance: The NDIS also offers a travel allowance for both participants and support workers to cover travel time and costs.
Household Tasks
The NDIS covers a range of household tasks under the "Assistance with Daily Living" category, including cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and home maintenance.
Common Household Tasks Covered:
- Cleaning: Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens.
- Laundry: Washing, drying, folding, and ironing clothes.
- Meal Preparation: Planning, shopping for groceries, cooking, and serving meals.
- Grocery Shopping: Purchasing food and household supplies.
- House Maintenance: Small repairs, changing light bulbs, and general upkeep of the home.
- Other Tasks: Changing bed linens, taking out the rubbish, and basic gardening.
